Mauritius-Africa Scholarship

In March 2013, the Government of Mauritius has agreed to award 50 scholarships to deserving African students. To be eligible for these scholarships, prospective candidates should be accepted on any full-time accredited degree programme at one of the public or private tertiary education institution registered with the TEC. The duration of the award would be up to four years. The Scholarships make provisions for:

  1. Up to Rs 100,000 yearly to be allocated to each beneficiary to meet tuition fees and related course costs;
  2. An all-inclusive living allowance to be paid at an approved rate of Rs 8,300 monthly for the full academic year, renewable upon submission of evidence from the University having successfully enrolled for the next academic year; and
  3. Return air-fare by the most economical route

Selection is made by a Scholarship Panel under the aegis of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources, Tertiary Education and Scientific Research on which a staff of RPD is represented. The Commission also manages the disbursement of the funds in respect of the scholarship.

Please note that as from the year 2014, Government has decided that the Scholarships to be offered to African students under the above scheme will be limited to public tertiary education institutions, namely:

  2. University of Technology, Mauritius
  3. Université des Mascareignes
  4. Open University of Mauritius
  5. Fashion and Design Institute
  6. Mauritius Institute of Education
  7. Mahatma Gandhi Institute
  8. Rabindranath Tagore Institute
